Obituary posted by : Cindy Tatem , Close friend | Person Description: | Suzanne was a very loving mom of two young boys ages 4 years old and 3 years old. She had a wonderful marriage to Gerry for over 5 years. Suzanne was a rectal cancer survivor at age 38. She and her family moved Apex, NC, in October, 2007, for a better job opportunity for Gerry. Little did they know that her aggressive rectal cancer had spread to her lungs and legs by the time they had unpacked their new home. By January, 2008, her doctors discovered there where 3 large tumors in her brain also. She tried radiation but it did not affect the tumor behind her face. The doctors sadly gave Suzanne 3 months to live in February, 2008. Her health declined quickly and it was an emotional roller coaster knowing that she would have to leave her children behind. She was a woman of faith and she tried very hard not to question God's decision to take her away from them. She spent alot of time mourning and preparing her sweet boys for what would happen soon and they responded well. She touched me and several other people in the community as a woman (and family) in crisis. We all reached out to them for support - financially, for the unexpected full time childcare, and spirutally. One of Suzanne's main crusades through all her tears was touching ONE person to get "checked out" early if they encountered similar sympoms. Rectal cancer is 90% treatable if caught in the early stages. She wishes she had paid more attention to her inner voice while she was experiencing the signs, but would love to save just one person from "walking in her shoes". Gerry, her sister, her mom, and her best friend were all present as she took her last breath; she was only 40 years old. Please visit the website created for her by one of our volunteers!
