He put in many long hours as a DC, and was already ready with his ships to either defend or retalliate. I knew that he had a debilitating illness and that his friends on IRC were one of the main ways he had to keep in touch with the world. I haven't been active on IRC for a couple of years but we had kept in touch via MSN.
