In Loving Memory

May 24, 1930 – September 15, 2003

John A. Gutwein born in Dayton Ohio to Sarah and Frederick Gutwein was known to both his family and friends as “Jack”. He passed away in Monterey Park California on Monday afternoon from heart and respiratory ailments. Jack is survived by ex-wives Marvene Pitrone and Loretta Shuck, three sons John R. Gutwein, Jeff A. Gutwein and wife Denise; their two sons Jordan and Jacob Gutwein; Greg J. Gutwein, and his daughter Mandy Gutwein; sister Emma Keane and her four children (Gail, Mark, Laura, Terri); brother Fredrick and wife Wilma Gutwein and their three sons Dan, Jim and Ted. He is also survived by half-brother Richard Gutwein who lives in Australia along with daughters (Covi and Gracie).

Jack was a college graduate from the University of Dayton and spent a thirty-year career working as an engineer at EG&G (Mound) formerly Monsanto. Retiring in 1990 he pursued many varied interests. He loved to cook, eat, watch sports, visit Las Vegas, pursue genealogy research and paint. He enjoyed time every day on his computer and e-mailed friends often. He loved country music and spending time with his family and friends. He loved to fish and eat fish. He lived life his way and on his terms until the very end. He was a generous man and always maintained a place for God in his personal life.

Family and friends will be gathering in both California and Ohio to celebrate a remembrance of Jack’s life. No formal funeral services are being held per Jack’s request. He was held at the Guerra Gutierrez Mortuary in Los Angeles California until his request to be cremated could be carried out by eldest son John R. Gutwein. Jack requested his son spread his ashes at a specific location at a future time.

Jack was loved by many and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Instead of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the American Heart Association.
Service Information:
